Senior Software Engineer (Backend)
We’re building a system where patients describe symptoms in plain language and receive guidance shaped by experienced clinicians—guided by models that surface relevant evidence, refine differentials, and adapt to new medical knowledge. As the third backend engineer, you’ll own service architecture from the database to the API layer, designing workflows that keep latency low and reasoning transparent when the stakes are high. You’ll shape how we structure clinical data, orchestrate long-running AI tasks, and integrate with external health records, all while maintaining the rigor expected of software that touches real patient outcomes. This is a hybrid role based in New York, working alongside physicians, product, and a small, exacting engineering team.
What they're looking for
- 6+ years building and maintaining production backend systems, with deep fluency in TypeScript and Node.js
- Strong data modeling skills in PostgreSQL and experience with Redis for caching, queues, or real-time state
- Hands-on experience deploying containerized workloads (Docker, Kubernetes) on AWS or GCP
- Comfort navigating ambiguous domains—healthcare, regulated industries, or similarly complex spaces—and turning partial requirements into resilient APIs
- A clear instinct for observability, testing, and incremental delivery in environments where reliability matters
