You'll own backend systems that push novel research into production—designing APIs that feed machine learning pipelines, optimizing data models for multi-terabyte experimental logs, and shipping React interfaces researchers actually use daily. Expect genuine full-stack scope with heavier weight on Python services, database architecture, and the infrastructure glue between lab instruments and cloud compute. The frontend work matters too: clear, speedy UIs that help biologists and chemists interpret what the models propose.
What they're looking for
- 5+ years shipping production backend systems in Python, with meaningful exposure to modern JavaScript/TypeScript frontends
- Deep fluency with relational databases and schema design under real load; NoSQL experience a plus
- Track record building and maintaining REST or GraphQL APIs consumed by internal tools or customer-facing products
- Comfort owning CI/CD pipelines and making pragmatic infrastructure calls without dedicated DevOps support
- Authorized to work in the U.S. and able to collaborate in-person two to three days weekly in San Francisco, New York, or Boston
