Backend Engineer

You'll build the systems that let a small team of human matchmakers scale to thousands of users. Most days: designing APIs that surface rich user narratives to our matching pipeline, shaving latency off our ranking queries, and untangling the data model as our user base diversifies. We're pre-series-B, eighteen people, and the infra choices you make now will stick — so we need someone who thinks in trade-offs, not just trending tools.
What they're looking for
- 4-6 years shipping backend systems, with fluency in at least two of: TypeScript, Python, Go, Java
- Hands-on experience deploying to AWS or GCP; Docker and Kubernetes aren't buzzwords to you, they're debugged-at-2am familiar
- Track record designing APIs and data models for consumer products where latency and correctness both matter
- Comfort working on-site in San Francisco with a tight-knit team of engineers, designers, and matchmakers
- Genuine interest in the human side: you ask how a technical decision affects the person on the other end of the app
