Well-funded AI lab building enterprise data intelligence tools
Member of the Technical Staff — AI / ML Research
Your mornings start with reading fresh arXiv papers over coffee; by afternoon you're prototyping a novel architecture in PyTorch, running distributed training across a cluster, and debating loss function design with colleagues who actually understand the math. You'll own research end-to-end here: identifying promising directions, implementing and benchmarking approaches, and translating findings into production-grade systems that process real-world data at scale. The lab operates with unusual autonomy—small teams, no rigid roadmaps, and a culture where a well-reasoned negative result carries as much weight as a flashy demo. Based in New York or San Francisco, with meaningful in-person collaboration two to three days weekly.
What they're looking for
- 6+ years advancing machine learning systems, with substantial depth in deep learning and a track record of reproducible research
- Expert-level Python and PyTorch; comfortable profiling distributed training runs and diagnosing convergence failures from first principles
- Published or shipped novel architectures, optimization methods, or representation-learning techniques in demanding data domains
- Rigor in experimental design—you maintain detailed logs, version models meticulously, and know when a benchmark is telling you something versus when it's broken
- Intellectual independence: you form your own research judgments, defend them with data, and adapt quickly when evidence contradicts your initial hypotheses
