Seed-stage AI platform making business text messaging actually usable for small companies
Staff Backend Software Engineer
You'll architect the systems that move millions of SMS messages monthly—building the Node.js pipelines that translate raw customer data into precisely timed, personalized texts. Most days center on refining TypeScript services for reliability at scale, designing AWS infrastructure that won't wake anyone at 3am, and mentoring two junior engineers through tricky distributed systems problems. The product sits at the intersection of marketing automation and conversational AI; your backend decisions directly determine whether a local bakery's flash-sale text lands in 500 pockets or gets swallowed by carrier filters.
What they're looking for
- 6+ years shipping production backend systems, with at least two years in Node.js and TypeScript
- Deep experience with AWS managed services—Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB or equivalents in anger, not just tutorials
- Track record building platforms that process high-volume event streams with strict delivery requirements
- Comfort mentoring early-career engineers while still owning complex technical design
- San Francisco on-site; you've worked in person with product and go-to-market teams before
