We're a small, well-funded team in San Francisco giving mission-critical organizations a way to offload the administrative burden that slows them down — scheduling, compliance tracking, resource coordination — through language models that understand their world. As our first dedicated AI hire, you'll own the architecture that turns unstructured operational inputs into reliable, auditable actions, working directly with the CTO and a handful of senior engineers who've already put early versions in front of users. This is a role for someone who wants to shape product direction from day one while wrestling with genuinely hard problems around accuracy, chain-of-thought reasoning, and domain-specific evaluation in environments where getting it wrong isn't an option.
What they're looking for
- 3+ years building production software with TypeScript and Python, comfortable across frontend (Next.js) and backend (Express, PostgreSQL)
- Experience shipping features powered by large language models — prompting strategies, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, or fine-tuning
- Strong opinions on evaluation: you've designed benchmarks, built eval harnesses, and can articulate how you'd measure reliability in a high-stakes domain
- Comfortable in an on-site, early-stage environment where you'll make foundational technical decisions with limited hand-holding
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required due to the nature of the work
