Object storage is the quiet backbone of nearly every modern application, from AI model checkpoints to user-generated content at planetary scale. This team owns a high-throughput, S3-compatible storage layer that powers workloads across the platform — and they need a technical leader who can drive reliability, performance, and a roadmap ambitious enough to match customer demand. You'll manage a group of senior engineers, shape the long-term architecture, and partner closely with product and infrastructure peers to make object storage a first-class primitive developers reach for by default. The surface area is broad — distributed systems, durability guarantees, API design, cost optimization — and the impact is immediate.
What they're looking for
- 8+ years in software engineering, with at least 3 years managing teams that own distributed storage, databases, or comparable stateful infrastructure
- Deep comfort with the internals of object storage systems — consistency models, erasure coding, metadata sharding, lifecycle policies, and the realities of operating them at scale
- Track record of growing senior engineers through coaching, honest feedback, and creating an environment where high autonomy and high accountability coexist
- Ability to collaborate across product, SRE, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous requirements into a clear, prioritized technical strategy
- Experience with S3-compatible APIs, cloud storage pricing dynamics, or multi-region data placement is a strong plus
