We're taking on the mountain of manual data entry, document review, and compliance checks that quietly consumes the commercial insurance industry. Our product gives underwriters and brokers hours back in their day by handling the repetitive work—extracting policy details, cross-referencing submissions, flagging inconsistencies—so humans can focus on actual judgment. As an early AI Engineer, you'll shape how language models and structured extraction pipelines turn messy, real-world insurance documents into reliable, auditable decisions. You won't be bolting a chatbot onto a legacy system; you'll be building the core engine that processes tens of thousands of submissions a month, working alongside a small, focused team in San Francisco.
What they're looking for
- 3+ years of professional experience building and shipping machine learning systems, with a focus on NLP or document understanding
- Deep fluency in Python, including experience with modern ML frameworks and LLM orchestration
- Comfortable owning evaluation rigor—designing metrics, building test suites, and knowing when a model is truly production-ready
- Prior exposure to information extraction, entity resolution, or structured prediction problems on unstructured text
- Clear communication habits and a bias toward shipping incrementally in a small-team environment where your voice carries real weight
