Building autonomous aerial systems purpose-built for the most hostile electronic warfare environments on the planet.

Founding Hardware Engineer

UKOn-site£65K - £85K4 - 10 years
We are a small, well-funded team designing uncrewed aircraft that must operate where GPS is denied, jamming is constant, and the margin for mechanical failure is zero. This is not a consumer-drone shop or a defense contractor churning out cost-plus paperwork — we build flight hardware that will be relied upon in situations where losing the link means losing the mission. As the first dedicated hardware engineer, you will define the physical architecture of our next-generation platform: airframe integration, sensor-payload packaging, thermal management, and the relentless pursuit of mass reduction without sacrificing survivability. You will work directly alongside the CTO and embedded software lead, owning the full hardware lifecycle from napkin sketches through flight test, and you will shape the tooling, vendor relationships, and engineering culture of the entire hardware function.

What they're looking for

  • 4–10 years of professional experience designing and delivering complex electromechanical systems, ideally in robotics, aerospace, or mission-critical industrial automation
  • Deep fluency in mechatronic integration — you have combined custom PCBs, sensors, actuators, and wiring harnesses into compact, thermally stable assemblies that survive shock and vibration
  • Proficiency with C/C++ for hardware bring-up, firmware prototyping, and close collaboration with embedded software engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to own a hardware program from concept through field deployment, including vendor selection, BOM optimization, and design-for-manufacturing decisions
  • Comfort working on-site in a UK-based workshop and test environment where you will regularly handle physical prototypes and flight hardware
