Building the intelligence layer that insurers trust to underwrite, assess, and protect.

Data Product Engineer

San FranciscoOn-site$230K - $280K5 - 8 years
We're assembling the foundational data infrastructure for a new category of insurance intelligence—systems that ingest messy, high-stakes information and turn it into decisions carriers can bet their balance sheets on. This is a founding engineering role, not a cog in a mature pipeline: you'll design the schemas, own the ingestion architecture, and shape how raw risk signals become structured products that downstream models and underwriters consume. The work sits at the intersection of data engineering and product thinking, where a well-modeled entity or a cleverly normalized table directly unlocks revenue. You'll ship Python daily, collaborate with a small, exacting team in San Francisco, and set the technical patterns the company will follow for years.

What they're looking for

  • 5–8 years building production data systems, with deep fluency in Python and a strong Git hygiene
  • Proven ability to design schemas, pipelines, and APIs that serve both machine and human consumers in a B2B or enterprise context
  • Comfortable operating in an early-stage, high-autonomy environment where roadmaps shift based on customer signal
  • Sharp product instincts—you can distinguish a clever abstraction from an over-engineered one and know when a quick script beats a full framework
  • Experience handling sensitive or regulated data (finance, healthcare, insurance) with care for correctness, lineage, and compliance
