America's leading literacy fundraiser, helping millions of kids discover a love for reading while raising funds for their schools.
Senior DevOps Engineer (AWS)
Your first year here will reshape how tens of thousands of young readers, educators, and families experience a platform that turns reading minutes into real school funding. You'll own the AWS environment that powers everything from student logging dashboards during peak reading challenges to the payment flows that distribute millions in donations. This is a hands-on infrastructure role where you'll harden a PHP and Laravel application stack, introduce smarter observability, and drive a migration toward infrastructure-as-code with Terraform — all while mentoring a small, sharp engineering team that ships continuously. The work directly protects uptime during the weeks when entire school districts are reading simultaneously, so your decisions around auto-scaling, database performance, and edge caching with Cloudflare will have immediate, visible impact.
What they're looking for
- 4+ years of production AWS experience, including deep familiarity with MySQL performance tuning, replication, and backup strategies at scale
- Hands-on expertise managing LAMP/Laravel stacks behind Apache and Nginx, with a track record of improving deployment velocity through CI/CD pipelines
- Fluency with Terraform or equivalent IaC tooling, plus containerization experience (Docker) in both development and production contexts
- Comfortable instrumenting monitoring and alerting across application, database, and infrastructure layers — Sigma or similar analytics tooling experience is a plus
- Clear communicator who can partner with product engineers to debug tricky production issues and advocate for reliability without slowing feature delivery
