A Bay Area hardware startup building a wearable brain-computer interface that reads EEG without contact.

Lead Firmware Engineer

South Bay AreaHybrid$300K - $400K10 - 18 years
You'll shepherd the embedded codebase that translates raw neural signals into reliable digital action—writing C and C++ for a tight stack running on custom hardware inside a wearable beanie. Most days you'll be deep in low-level timing, power budgets, and signal-chain validation, but you'll also shape how a six-year-old team of ninety approaches firmware review, release discipline, and cross-functional integration with ML and hardware. This is hands-on leadership: expect to ship code yourself while setting the bar for the engineers you mentor.

What they're looking for

  • 10+ years shipping embedded firmware for consumer or medical hardware, with substantial C and C++ at the register level
  • Track record leading small firmware teams through at least one full product cycle from prototype to production
  • Deep comfort with EEG, biosignal acquisition, or similarly noisy analog front-ends and real-time digital filtering
  • Experience balancing aggressive power constraints against latency requirements in wearable or battery-operated devices
  • Currently based in or willing to relocate to the South Bay Area; hybrid schedule with meaningful on-site hardware collaboration
