Merchant nanofabrication startup building photonic infrastructure for defense and space applications.

Founding Nanofab Engineer

Los AngelesOn-site$140K - $200K2 - 6 years
Your mornings start in the cleanroom: calibrating e-beam systems, debugging process flows for silicon photonics, and documenting yield data that determines whether a wafer run ships or gets scrapped. You'll own the full loop—translating mask designs into fab recipes, troubleshooting etch uniformity, and iterating with design teams who've never had access to a dedicated photonics foundry. This is hands-on infrastructure work for someone who'd rather debug aPECVD reactor anomaly than sit through another roadmap review.

What they're looking for

  • 2–6 years in semiconductor or photonics fabrication: you've run process lots, not just simulated them
  • Deep familiarity with at least two of: e-beam lithography, dry etching (ICP/RIE), PECVD, wafer bonding, or CMP
  • Track record of owning a process module from qualification to stable yield, with documentation to match
  • Comfortable with ambiguity in an early-stage hardware environment: you build the SOPs, not just follow them
  • U.S. person status or ability to obtain security clearance for defense-adjacent work
