Platform company modernizing knowledge management for the U.S. construction industry.

Backend Software Engineer

New YorkHybrid$175K - $225K2 - 8 years
You'll build data pipelines and backend systems that ingest, structure, and surface construction knowledge—think building codes, project histories, material specs—into a single searchable platform engineers and contractors actually use day-to-day. Most mornings start in Ruby on Rails or Python (Airflow for orchestration), shipping APIs that feed React frontends and keep construction teams from digging through scattered PDFs and spreadsheets. You'll own features end-to-end in a small, technical team where your commits reach production fast and your code decisions shape how an entire industry accesses critical information.

What they're looking for

  • 2+ years shipping production backend code in Ruby on Rails or Python, with comfort across both
  • Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines, ideally with Airflow or similar orchestration tools
  • Solid grasp of relational database design and optimization for query-heavy applications
  • Comfortable building APIs consumed by React frontends; full-stack fluency is a plus
  • Genuine interest in construction, built environment, or industrial domains where messy data is the norm—you're solving problems for boots-on-the-ground practitioners
