Tooling Engineer
This is a manufacturing engineering role centered on the design, procurement, and prove-out of production tooling for airframe structures and subsystems. You'll own tooling workstreams from concept through commissioning—jigs, fixtures, assembly aids, lifting equipment, and ground support hardware—ensuring every piece of flight hardware can be built repeatably and at rate. The shop floor is your domain: you'll collaborate directly with fabrication technicians, machinists, and welders, solving fit-up problems in real time and driving designs that prioritize ergonomics, precision, and speed. We're looking for someone who thinks in steel and aluminum, understands how to balance cost against schedule, and takes deep satisfaction from seeing a well-designed fixture turn a complex build into a predictable process.
What they're looking for
- 3–10 years of tooling or manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or heavy fabrication environments
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks) and a working command of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Hands-on background bringing tooling from concept through stress analysis, fabrication, inspection, and shop floor integration
- Familiarity with large-scale assembly tooling, machining fixtures, weld jigs, and lifting/ground support equipment
- Comfortable working full-time on-site in Los Angeles and moving between an engineering desk and an active production environment daily
