You'll spend mornings reviewing tolerance stacks for injection-molded waveguide housings and afternoons debating thermal expansion coefficients with optical physicists in the cleanroom. The work sits at the intersection of nanometer-scale optics and human-scale hardware—every bracket and seal you design has to survive repeated use while keeping photon paths pristine. This is hands-on mechanical problem-solving for production-ready AR systems, not concept sketches that gather dust.

What they're looking for

  • 5+ years designing precision mechanical assemblies for consumer electronics, optical instruments, or medical devices
  • Deep fluency in GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM for plastics and metals
  • Hands-on experience with optomechanical systems, hermetic sealing, or thermal management in constrained volumes
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or Creo; comfort running FEA for structural and thermal validation
  • Track record shipping hardware through NPI—working directly with CM partners in Asia or Mexico preferred
